For one pediatrician, the path to Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) started as a temporary stop during residency – but quickly became the place where a meaningful career began. While completing a community elective rotation during her fourth year of pediatric residency at McMaster University, Dr. Mena Bahnam experienced firsthand the collaborative and supportive culture at BCHS.

Imagine returning to the very hospital unit where your life changed – this time, not as a patient, but as someone offering support and hope. At Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS), that’s exactly what’s happening in Brantford General Hospital’s Integrated Stroke Unit (ISU).
BCHS was honoured to host Chef Rick Powless of Oneida of Thames First Nations as part of a new collaboration with Compass One Group to develop patient meals inspired by local Indigenous communities.
In 2001, a young patient named Cam Mulder was diagnosed with diabetes and became part of the Brant Community Healthcare System’s (BCHS) Children’s Diabetes Program. Like many children living with Type 1 Diabetes, daily life meant constant monitoring, routines, and sometimes challenges along the way.

On August 21, 2025, at 34 weeks and two days, baby Frankie entered the world screaming — a sound her mom, Cierra, described as “the most beautiful sound I have ever heard.”
“After everything we had been through, that cry felt like hope,” she shares.
