For Alanna Rootes-Johnson a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), it's that combination of clinical challenge and human connection that has made emergency nursing an incredibly rewarding career at Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS).

Sometimes the path to your future begins in a place that's already familiar.

For Aneesa Jayawardena, that path started at Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) as a high school co-op student in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

In June 2026, the realization of a new hospital coming to Brantford-Brant took a giant leap forward as BCHS officially submitted its Stage 1.3 Functional Program to the Ministry of Health. 

Through a commitment to lifelong learning and support from BCHS' Centralized Education Fund (CEF), Nazia has expanded her clinical expertise through advanced training in evidence-based mental health interventions.

“I believe learning is a lifelong journey, which is why I’m always seeking opportunities to grow, expand my knowledge, and gain new perspectives.”

Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kim Ann Laush as the new Chair of the Board of Directors.

Since joining the BCHS Board in 2022, Dr. Laush has been a dedicated and valued contributor, bringing a strong commitment to community service, education, and leadership. Her appointment as Chair reflects a career defined by a passion for helping others and a deep understanding of the systems that support community well-being.

For one pediatrician, the path to Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) started as a temporary stop during residency – but quickly became the place where a meaningful career began. While completing a community elective rotation during her fourth year of pediatric residency at McMaster University, Dr. Mena Bahnam experienced firsthand the collaborative and supportive culture at BCHS.

BCHS was honoured to host Chef Rick Powless of Oneida of Thames First Nations as part of a new collaboration with Compass One Group to develop patient meals inspired by local Indigenous communities.
