Shaping the Future of Emergency Care at BCHS

On August 13, 2025, Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) reached a significant and transformative milestone with the opening of the new Andersen Ambulatory Assessment Area – Zone 7 at Brantford General Hospital (BGH).
After nearly a decade of planning and collaboration, this new space represents not only an expansion of the Emergency Department (ED), but also a vision for the future of patient care in Brantford-Brant.
For Dr. Somaiah Ahmed, Chief & Medical Director of Emergency Medicine, stepping into the new space for the first time was deeply meaningful. “This feels like the first step in the culmination of an ED project that was first envisioned nearly 10 years ago,” she says.
“It represents a vision that we will continue to grow into spaces that provide the very best care for our patients.”
