“From the very beginning, BCHS has felt like home.”

Gurubharan (Guru) Murugesan pictured here, works as a Labour Relations Coordinator, supporting the Human Resources (HR) Director and HR Business Partners.

When Gurubharan (Guru) Murugesan joined Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS), he didn’t imagine just how quickly his career would grow, or how much the organization would come to feel like home.

Today, Guru works as a Labour Relations Coordinator, supporting the Human Resources (HR) Director and HR Business Partners with the day-to-day coordination that keeps labour relations running smoothly. From calendar management and meeting coordination to working closely with unions and employees to schedule discussions, Guru plays a key role in fostering collaboration and clear communication. He also helps organize and support monthly employer–union meetings, gaining valuable exposure to labour relations and HR operations along the way.

Guru’s journey at BCHS began in October 2024 as a volunteer, followed by a co-op placement in Human Resources in January. From there, his career progressed quickly, moving into an HR Assistant role in April, an HR Associate role in June, and stepping into his current position in December 2025. “I’ve always had a passion for healthcare, and BCHS felt like the right place to grow, learn, and contribute meaningfully,” says Guru.

“From the very beginning, BCHS has felt like home,” Guru shares. “Starting as a student gave me valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn through real-life situations. With the support of an incredible team, I’ve grown both professionally and personally, developing stronger communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of HR and labour relations.”

Mentorship has played a significant role in Guru’s development. He credit’s every member of the HR team as a mentor in their own way—offering guidance, encouragement, and trust that helped shape his career path and supported each next step forward.

One standout moment for Guru was being recognized for his work. “That recognition made me feel truly valued and appreciated,” he says. “It confirmed that I’m in the right place—somewhere my contributions matter and my efforts are seen.”

For anyone considering a career in HR or labour relations, Guru is quick to challenge common misconceptions. “HR isn’t just policies and paperwork,” they explain. “It’s about people. You make a real impact on individuals and workplace culture. It’s challenging, meaningful, and incredibly rewarding if you care about others.”

Guru strongly recommends BCHS as a place to start or grow a career in healthcare. “There are real opportunities to learn, advance, and feel supported. BCHS genuinely invests in its people and truly feels like home. That makes all the difference.”

We asked Guru if he could share one piece of advice to future staff, what would it be? He shares, “Show up, do your best, stay open to learning, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you’re willing to grow, BCHS is a place that will support and value you.”

BCHS offers more than just a job – it’s meaningful work that makes a difference. For more information on how to join TeamBCHS, visit: www.bchsys.org/careers
