Building Connections at BCHS: New Buddy Program Supports Healthcare Professionals

Starting a new job is exciting, but those first few weeks can also come with a lot of questions and uncertainty.

That’s why BCHS launched its Buddy Program in Spring 2026, connecting Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs), Internationally Educated Professionals (IEPs) and other new staff with a colleague who can help them feel supported and welcomed from day one.

“The program was created to foster a supportive environment where healthcare professionals can build meaningful connections, feel a sense of belonging, and gain confidence as they navigate their new workplace,” says Cindy Hayward-Dale, Director Health, Safety & Wellness.

Since its launch, the Buddy Program has obtained 17 buddy volunteers, which have led to 20 successful matches with new employees. By investing in meaningful connections, the Buddy Program reflects BCHS’ commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative workplace.
