Collect blood in a LIGHT BLUE top tube (citrated). Collect a FULL TUBE. Mix thoroughly by gentle inversion. IMMEDIATELY centrifuge for 15 minutes at 3500 rpm. Carefully pipette all PLATELET POOR plasma, starting from the top of the plasma, into a clear labelled centrifuge tube taking care NOT TO DISTURB the buffy coat layer (white layer of platelets and white cells directly above the red cells). Cap centrifuge tube. IMMEDIATELY centrifuge this plasma for another 15 minutes at 3500 rpm. Pipette the PLATELET POOR plasma, starting from the top of the plasma into one (1) labelled aliquot tube taking care NOT TO DISTURB the BOTTOM of the tube. DO NOT TRANSFER ANY CELLS. Cap tightly and FREEZE IMMEDIATELY. |
