Collection Information  Approved Reasons for testing, all other reasons will be cancelled at PHL and serological testing will be performed 
  • High Risk behaviour in mother of neonate
  • Diagnosis of HIV in infants born to HIV positive mothers
  • The resolution of HIV antibody indeterminate cases
  • The diagnosis of HIV infection in individuals likely to be in a pre-antibody, sero-conversion window

Plasma or Serum is acceptable must be no less than 650 uL

 

5 microtainers are required; enough  to yield 650 uL serum once spun

 

Must be centrifuged within 24 hours of collection. If using blood collection tubes without gel separators, serum or plasma must be separated and transferred to aliquot tubes immediately before sending to PHO.

 

Children/Neonates must send Mon-Fri via courier to Toronto PHL

Storage and Transport  Can be stored at 25 to 30°C for 24 hours; Refrigerate if > 24hrs before shipping.
