All orders will require consultation with the biochemist on-call (905-521-5070 x 5070) BEFORE sending the specimen to the Hamilton General. Please ensure that the front line tests have been performed (including electrolytes, glucose, urea, creatinine, osmolality, ethanol, blood gases, and calculated anion gap and osmolar gap) and that toxic alcohol ingestion remains high in the differential diagnosis prior to requesting this test. Requesting Physician must call the Biochemist on call. After hours send the approved samples to: Core/Lab - Level 1, Hamilton General Hospital, 237 Barton St., E, Hamilton, ON, L8L 2X2
Samples from Norfolk and West Haldimand are to be sent to BCHS. Osmolality results will be communicated to the referring hospital. The referring hospital contacts Hamilton for approval. BCHS will forward the sample via taxi to Hamilton once approval confirmed. Otherwise the sample will be cancelled. Store refrigerated |
