Critical Values

As growth is detected and identified the information is made available to the health care provider.

Lab Process Notes

If Serratia is detected notify immediately the ward that the patient is on (if an in-patient), patient registration (so a flag may be created) and infection control.

Storage and Transport

Specimen should be transported to the laboratory after collection in biohazard bag.

Specimen should be stored at room temperature in the laboratory (in the Microbiology rack) after receipt.
