The nurse or physician will take a swab of the ear area. The swab is then quickly transferred to the transport media. The specimen should be labeled appropriately and sent to the laboratory. If eardrum is ruptured, collect exudate by inserting a sterile swab through an auditory speculum. Place swab in transport media |
