The physician will collect this specimen.

Collect 5 mL in sterile container. If more than one test is requested collect >10 mL.

Remove trap and replace with screw capped lid before transporting.

As growth is detected and identified the information is made available to the health care provider.

Storage and Transport

Specimen should be refrigerated until the specimen can be transported to the lab. Bacterial counts are not valid if the specimen has been left at room temperature.
