Emergency Department Flooring Replacement Project – Phase 2 starts Monday September 15

During Phase 2 of this extensive project, the flooring will be replaced in the Ambulance entrance. To facilitate this, paramedics will need to transport all patients through the security entrance. To ease congestion in this area, security staff will be on hand to direct all other non-emergency traffic to other hospital entrances.

Beginning Monday September 15 at 1200 hours the parking area outside of the ED will be blocked off to all non-emergency traffic. The doors will remain accessible for pedestrians.

  • Staff who are normally dropped off and picked up for work through the security entrance will need to be dropped off on the sidewalk or at an alternate entrance.
  • After-hours access: pedestrian access will be allowed through the security entrance. Non-emergency vehicles will be redirected.
  • Taxis will not be able to drop off or pickup at the Emergency Entrance. Please advise patients/visitors/staff to be picked up and dropped off at either the A Wing, D Wing, or E Wing entrances.
  • All patient discharges are to be facilitated through A Wing or D Wing.
  • All patient transports will be completed through D Wing.
  • Brantford Lift will continue to use their regular designated drop/off pickup zone on Terrace Hill Street.
  • Lab delivery services will use the A Wing or D Wing entrances.

This phase is expected to be completed by September 26 at which time we will resume normal traffic patterns outside of the ED.

Questions and concerns about the project can be directed to 519-751-5558 or Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to improve your hospital.

Phase 1 update (September 5-14)

Phase 1 is well underway. The areas affected during Phase 1 include the registration and triage areas, part of the waiting room, and various treatment rooms. Patients will be greeted, registered and triaged in the waiting room. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to help direct patients. Due to the loss of treatment space we anticipate there may be to some extended wait times. Patients who have been admitted to the hospital through the Emergency Department (ED) will wait on B Wing, Level 8 until their bed in the hospital becomes available.

Patients who attend the ED during this time are requested to limit their visitors to only one person at their bedside. There will be no space available to accommodate any additional visitors within the department.

Patients are reminded that the Urgent Care Centre is available at the Willett in Paris for non-emergency problems such as sore throats, coughs, colds, ear infections, minor burns, cuts and bruises, strains and sprains. The Willett Urgent Care is open Monday – Friday: 10:00am–9:30pm, and Saturday & Sunday: 10:00am–5:30pm.
