The Staff Calendar will outline all of the events we have planned for the year. Be sure to keep an eye out on the calendar and your email!

Wellness Activity Waiver

All staff, physicians and volunteers are required to complete the Wellness Activity Waiver for any activities they wish to participate in. This is a mandatory requirement.

Homewood Health Wellness Sessions

During the Covid-19 pandemic, our Wellness sessions hosted by Homewood Health are being offered virtually (via Zoom). Keep an eye on your staff email for upcoming sessions!

Yoga in the Chapel

Yoga is currently cancelled until further notice. Please visit this page or the Staff Calendar for updates as to when yoga will resume.

Yoga will be led by a Certified Yoga Instructor in the Chapel (A-Wing). The classes are free of charge for staff. Don't forget to bring a mat and water! You will be required to complete an Employee Wellness Waiver if you wish to participate.

Massage Therapy with Westervelt College

In 2019, the BCHS partnered with Westervelt College and had Massage therapy students on-site completing their clinical placement hours and offering complimentary 15 minute seated massages to staff. This partnership is currently on hold during the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope to bring this great program back to BCHS in the near future!

Wellness Resources & Articles

We recognize how hard our staff and physicians are working during this difficult time. Please take the time to review the following resilience and support documents:

  • March 2020
  • April 2020
  • May 2020

CMA Physician Wellness Hub

  • "We created the CMA Physician Wellness Hub to drive change in the culture of medicine, and promote health and wellness in the medical profession for the benefit of practitioners, the health system and all Canadians. The Hub aims to improve physician wellness individually and at the system level, and to promote a collaborative approach to physician health and well-being."
  • "The Hub provides actionable wellness tools and resources to empower physicians, medical learners and leaders to create change in the culture of medicine and support health and wellness in the medical profession. Whether you are a physician, medical student, resident, or leader in the healthcare space, you are encouraged to visit the Hub and learn how you can make physician wellness a priority."

Hamilton Health Sciences Covid-19: Resilience Support Toolkit: Hamilton Health Sciences has some amazing resources available at the link above including articles, videos, etc. We are happy to be able to share these resources with BCHS!

"Resilience is like a muscle. The more you work it, the stronger it gets. This Resilience Support Toolkit is meant to help us all strengthen our resilience by working resilience-building practices into our daily routines and workflow, using the framework of PAUSE, RESET, NOURISH or PRN. These practices are based on solid neuroscience and the idea of “neuroplasticity”, that our brains are constantly changing based on how we think and what we choose to focus on. These tools help to calm our nervous system and enhance our focus and well-being."

  • We love this article by Katey Davidson, Registered Dietitian: How to stop eating for other people, and start living for you.

Have nutrition-related questions or concerns? Did you know that a Registered Dietitian (RD) is the only regulated health professional with the nutrition expertise, education, and practical training required to provide sound and evidence-based nutrition advice and recommendations? You can seek out assistance via one of the following channels:

  1. Telehealth Nutrition Services: Geared towards general inquiries regarding healthy eating.
  2. Your family doctor/family health team (FHT)
  3. Community health centres: Registered Dietitian on staff for one-on-one consultations and community-based group settings.
  4. Fee-for-service Registered Dietitians: These RDs work in private practice or for corporations (e.g., Loblaw, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sobeys, etc.). There is a cost associated with their services which can often be covered by extended health benefits plans! (Note: These services are not presently covered by the benefits package for BCHS provided by Green Shield Canada)
  5. Local Health Integration Network (LHIN): Do you currently receive home care services through the LHIN? If so, you may be eligible for a visit by a home care RD. Ask your community coordinator for more information!

If you are interested in getting involved, or providing feedback, you can contact the wellness team with the links below. If you are interested in joining the Wellness Commitee please let us know! We would be happy to have you!
