Brantford General Site Volunteer Positions

SERVICE

PURPOSE

COMMITMENT & AVAILABLE TIMES

Administration Volunteer/ Clerical

To assist the Administrative Assistant / Secretaries with their duties

½ Day per week.
Flexible, shared by 2 or 3 volunteers.

Ambulatory Care Volunteer

To assist staff with activities on this unit and interact with patients when necessary.

One 3-4 shift per week

Mon-Fri-8am-3pm

Asthma Clinic Volunteer

To assist the Asthma Educator and receptionist in the Asthma Centre.
To assist in supervising children in the center.

One 2-3 hour shift per week.

Wed and Thurs-9am-6pm

Brant Community Cancer Clinic Volunteer

To offer non-medical comfort and support to staff, patients and their families while in the clinic.

One 3-4 hour shift

Monday afternoon

Caring Clowning Volunteer
•  Must be a member of Brant Clown Alley & complete Caring Clowning Course

To use therapeutic humor as a means to aid in patient healing as well as a way to cheer up and entertain patients

To be arranged by volunteer services

Community Rehabilitation Volunteer

To assist staff with clerical duties

One shift per week

Community Relations Volunteer

To support staff with projects

To provide social interaction with patients while on trip

Confidential Waste Volunteer

To assist with the collection of confidential waste

Day Hospital Volunteer

To assist staff with programming, i.e.: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, recreation therapy, speech therapy and nursing

One 4 hour shift per week

Day Surgery – Ophthalmology Volunteer

To greet and direct patients. To provide some personal attention to patients and families. To assist staff with patient flow throughout the department

One 4 hour shift per week

Mon-Thurs-9am-1pm

Day Surgery Volunteer

To greet and direct patients. To provide some personal attention to patients and families. To assist staff with patient flow throughout the department

One 4 hour shift per week

Mon-Fri-8am-8pm

Diabetes and Metabolic Outpatient Volunteer

To Assist staff with preparation of forms for patient charts, assembly of various forms, telephone reminders for specific classes and projects.

1-2 hour shift

2 mornings per week preferably Monday and Friday

Emergency Waiting Room Volunteer To act as a liaison between patients, relatives and staff. Volunteers provide empathetic caring, listening and understanding to patients and families

Monday to Sunday
3 - 6 p.m.
6 - 9 p.m.

Emergency Volunteer

To provide a liaison for family, patients, and staff. To assist staff so they are able to provide quality patient care.

One 3-4 hour shift per week

Foundation Office Volunteer

To assist the Foundation Staff

To provide a pool of volunteers to draw from when assistance is needed for a specific event.

To sell gift and snack items to the patients, staff and visitors

Hair Dresser's Helper

To provide individualized attention to residents while they are having their hair done.

To assist with the microfilm project

Human Resources Volunteer

To assist the Human Resources staff with specific projects, studies, surveys as needed.

Information Desk Volunteer

To provide both a friendly welcome to the Brantford General Site and accurate information and directions

One 4-hour shift per week

Kidney Dialysis Unit Volunteer

To assist patients and staff in non-nursing activities

One shift per week

Mon 10am-2pm, Thurs 9:30am – 1:00pm
Mon-Fri-4pm-7pm

Laboratory Volunteer

To provide assistance to laboratory staff

Regular schedule to be worked out with volunteer

Lottery Volunteer

* Must be 19 years old

Fundraising initiative to raise money for the Volunteer Association and Foundation

One 3-hour shift per week

Mon-Fri-10am-7pm

Mammography Volunteer

To greet patients and provide personal attention while they are awaiting the procedure.

One 4-hour shift per week

Mon-Fri-8am-8pm

Nursing Unit
(Inpatient rehab/medical/surgical)

To assist staff with duties on the nursing unit and enhance patient stay by providing individual attention.

One shift per week

Mon-Fri- 9-12, 1-4, 4-7

Observational Care

 

To meet with individual patients and assist with their specific needs.

On call as required

Organizational Health Volunteer

To provide support to the organizational health staff

One 2-4 hour shift per week

 

Paediatrics Volunteer

To enhance patient and family focused care by assisting staff and supervising children in the unit

One 2-4 shift per week

P.A.C.U/O.R Family Waiting Room Volunteer

To help provide a warm sensitive, environment to help alleviate any anxiety that families may be experiencing

One shift per week

Wed-9:30-12:30, 12:30-4 p.m.

Palliative Care

* Palliative/Pastoral care course

To provide support by listening, talking, reading, praying or sitting quietly with the patient or family

To assist patients

Pharmacy Volunteer

To assist and provide additional support in carrying out routine technical pharmacy functions, i.e. prepackaging

Physiotherapy Volunteer –

To provide support to the physiotherapist and complete duties as needed

One 2–3 hour shift per week

Pre-op Clinic Volunteer

To greet and direct patients throughout the clinic

Radiology Volunteer

To provide assistance to the imaging staff

One 3-4 shift per week

Special Events

To assist with special events within the hospital

Speech Pathology and Audiology Volunteer
– Reminder Phone Calls

To assist with follow up phone calls to patients informing them of their scheduled appointment

One 3-hour shift per week
