You have options. At the Brant Community Healthcare System victims of sexual assault choose the treatment they want to receive.

*PLEASE NOTE* Your visit is entirely confidential. Police will not be informed without your knowledge and consent.

1. Emotional support
You are given the opportunity to discuss what has happened to you with someone who is supportive and understanding. You will not be judged or forced to do anything that you are uncomfortable doing. You will be given the option to have follow up counselling and medical treatment.

2. Medical Examination
You are given emotional support plus a physical examination to assess for any injuries and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. Hepatitis B and AIDS. Treatment will be given to reduce the chances of getting STD or Hepatitis B. The Morning After Pill is available. You will be offered follow up counselling and medical treatment.

3. Medical/Legal Examination
You will be given emotional support, a physical examination and collection of Forensic evidence will be completed. You are offered follow up counselling and medical treatment as in Option 2. You may choose to have Police involvement at this time. However, if you choose not to involve the police at this time the evidence kit is stored in a locked freezer for sis months while you decide about reporting the incident to police.

  • Crisis Counselling
  • Physical Examination and Treatment as required
  • Testing for Sexually transmitted diseases, Hepatitis B and AIDS
  • Prophylactic antibiotics against Sexually Transmitted Disease
  • Vaccination for Hepatitis B and Tetanus
  • Pregnancy Prevention (The Morning After Pill)
  • Access to counselling and long term support services
  • Follow up medical treatment
  • All contacts are completely confidential
  • Assistance is available 24 hours a day
