The Construction Safety Risk Group
"Keeping it clean"
non-emergency hotline number (ext. 2660)
Anyone having undergone a renovation to their house, knows how disruptive construction activities can be. Muddy footprints and dusty rooms soon bring the inevitable call, “who is responsible for this?”
In the Brant Community Healthcare System, the Construction Safety Risk Group has taken on the responsibility of maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
Before any construction workers begin, they are required to attend orientation sessions with Infection Control/Occupational Health Services. In the sessions they are made aware of the hospital's expectations in keeping the patients, staff and visitors safe during construction.
The Group meets weekly to review any construction related activities. They also regularly do rounds and perform air quality monitoring at any location under construction.
Anne Overhoff, Manager, Organizational Health, stresses the importance of being constantly vigilant. “We have a big thrust on infection control. Our priority is keeping the patients safe.”
They also have a non-emergency hotline number (ext. 2660) for use by any staff who identify an infection control or health and safety risk.
