 The Constant Care Nursery is a nursery for sick and premature infants. This nursery is also called CCN. The following are questions often asked about the Constant Care Nursery. Click on the links below to find the answers.

Why is my baby here?
Your baby needs special care. Your baby may be sick or premature. Premature means your baby was born at least four weeks before your due date.
Our Constant Care Unit has the staff and equipment needed to care for your baby.
Who will care for my baby?
Your baby will be cared for by a health care team which includes:
- Paediatricians - Doctors who are trained in the care of sick and premature babies.
- Neonatologist - A paediatrician with special training in the care of very sick and premature babies.
- Registered Nurses - The nurses who work in CCN have experience in intensive nursing care of babies, and their families.
- Social Worker - The social worker has special training to help you and your family work out problems that may occur when you have a sick or premature baby.
Can I telephone the CCN?
Please call the CCN at any time. You may want to call often if you are unable to visit your baby. When you call, ask for the nurse who is caring for your baby. This nurse will talk to you about your baby's health and hospital care. All your questions are welcome.
If others call to ask about your baby we will not give them any information over the telephone.

How can I get more information about my baby?
Your baby's nurse can help you get the information you need. We have many teaching sheets about sick or premature babies. Each time you visit your baby in CCN please:
- Check with the staff before you go into the nursery.
- Wash your hands with soap at the sink for one minute.
- If you have a cold, a coldsore, or feel sick in any way, please check with your baby's nurse before you come into the nursery.
When can I visit my baby?
You will be able to visit your baby within an hour of birth. We will give you a picture of your baby to keep with you. You are welcome to bring your own camera or video camera to take pictures of your own baby.
Please visit your baby as often as you can. You are very important to your baby and your baby's health care team.
You may visit at any time. During our busiest times, we ask visitors to wait a short time before seeing your baby. These times are between 6:45 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Who can visit my baby?
Anyone who is special to you and your baby can visit.
A parent needs to be with all visitors. Only 2 visitors may visit at one time. This means you can bring one visitor at a time to see your baby. Brothers and sisters are welcome to visit their new baby, but please, no other children. Please report to the CCN staff any of the children's recent illnesses.
For the privacy of other families, you and your visitors should only visit with your baby.
How can I find out how my baby is doing?
During each visit you will see a nurse who will tell you how your baby is doing. Please ask the nurse any questions you have about your baby's health.
The nurse can arrange for you to speak with other members of the health care team. The best time to speak with your baby's doctor is during weekdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

If you have any questions or concerns about your baby's health or hospital care, please ask any person on the health care team. We hope that you will take part in your baby's care as much as possible and feel welcome in our nursery.
