Out Patient Nutrition Counseling Clinic (Centre)

The Clinic is a source of reliable nutrition information. The Registered Dietitians who staff this clinic are trained to advise on nutrition and related topics. Nutritional care plans are tailored to individuals needs and lifestyles.

Our goal is to promote health and well-being through nutrition.

Who can Attend?

Anyone who has a written referral from a physician can attend.

What Programs are offered?

We offer nutrition counseling for every dietary concern. We conduct group or individual counseling sessions. Careful screening by staff make placement easy. We reserve our individual counseling for clients with special needs (i.e. physical, mental, developmental concerns, or many dietary concerns.)

What you will learn Hyperlipidemia Clinic

You will learn the best ways to reduce your blood cholesterol, saturated fat and total fat intake, and your risk of heart disease by making "Heart Healthy" food choices. You will learn how to read product labels and determine if the food product is acceptable. You will receive a nutritional care plan tailored for you together with suggested lifestyle changes to achieve success.

Weight Control Clinic

In this clinic, you will be taught meal planning with Canada' Food Guide, how to eat well, stay active and feel good about yourself. An individualized outline will be provided to help you achieve a healthier weight and Body Mass Index (BMI). Weight control includes weight loss, maintenance, or gain. We offer classes for children and their parents, adolescents, and adults.

Prenatal Clinic

Nutrition counseling is provided before and throughout pregnancy to promote a healthy balanced diet to achieve a healthy pregnancy and baby, together with the recommended pattern of weight control. We also address the dietary concerns of vegetarian prenatal patients.

Renal Nutrition Services

The Brantford General Hospital provides a Hemodialysis program from Monday to Saturday for individuals with kidney failure. Individuals with kidney failure feel their best if they adhere to dietary changes to help limit the build up of waste products and fluids in the blood stream. A Registered Dietitian assists with individualized meal plans and other dietary needs. She is available to see Renal clients two days a week in the Clinic. She can be reached at 751-5544, extension 4384.

Follow-up Appointments

Patients are provided with individual follow-up appointments with the Registered Dietitian. We offer appointment times from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Patients are supported with follow-up appointments until their nutrition intervention goals are accomplished.

Dietitians are available by telephone to answer questions. The telephone # for the Department is 751-5544, ext. 2245.
