WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?
Accreditation is a continually evolving process, which enables us to evaluate and improve the quality of our services through peer review and self-assessment.
It accurately assesses how our services meet national standards of care and quality. The CCHSA (Canadian Council for Health Services Accreditation) has deemed that in order to have quality care, you must have safe care.
The CCHSA, under the leadership of the Patient Safety Advisory Council, began to develop Patient Safety Goals and Required Organizational Practices in 2004. There are 25 Required Organizational Practices that organizations are required to have fully implemented in order to be an Accredited facility.
The Brant Community Healthcare System has been diligently striving towards meeting compliance with all 25 Required Organizational Practices.
WHY PARTICIPATE IN ACCREDITATION?
Accreditation is one of the ways in which the BCHS publicly demonstrates accountability and our ongoing commitment to quality improvement to our patients and community. Certain organizations such as Colleges and Universities require that their partners are accredited organizations i.e. being accredited ensures that we can continue to benefit from student, resident/intern placement, as well as, provide some specialty services.
