Employee and Labour Relations Specialist
Full-time

SCOPE:
We are currently looking for a dynamic individual to join our team of HR professionals. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and evaluating staff/ labour relations while stressing cooperation at all levels to ensure effective working relationships between staff and management. You will consistently encourage and promote a work environment free of harassment, which promotes creativity, growth, support and teamwork in keeping with the Hospital’s mission, vision, and values.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interprets for and consults with managers, staff and HR co-workers with regards to human resources policies and procedures and Collective Agreements, to ensure consistency of practices throughout the organization
  • Responsible for the staff/ labour relations function of researching legal issues, preparation of and locating relevant grievance documentation necessary to the Hospital’s position on various issues and responses to the applicable Union group
  • Facilitates labour dispute processes
  • Provides support to the Manager, Human Resources for Collective Bargaining
  • Prepares, coordinates and maintains union and non-union settlements and memorandums of understanding
  • Recommends resolutions to new policies as identified through legislation and corporate changes
  • Preparation and analysis of statistical reports and trending
  • Coordinate and analyze the attendance and leave management program
  • Coordinate, plan, develop and implement other projects as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years current experience as a Labour Relations Specialist
  • Experience working in a unionised environment preferably in healthcare
  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation or working towards
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the application of various Employee and Labour Relations related legislation such as but not limited to, OLRA, WSIA, ESA and OHRC 
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent negotiation, resolution and mediation skills, as may be required, but not limited to, the application of s.50 of the OLRA, and appealing decisions of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
Ability to multi-task, with proven organizational skills
