On September 7, 2018, the Indigenous Patient Experience Committee of the BCHS hosted its first "Indigenous Solidarity Recognition & Relationship Building" Open House at BCHS.  The goal was to provide a day of learning and experiences for BCHS staff.  There were Indigenous craft vendors, samples of Indigenous foods and displays from local Indigenous Health Agencies.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was a presentation by Dr. Amy Montour, "Indigenous Health and Wellness."  Dr. Montour is from Six Nations and a palliative care physician at BCHS.  Her frank presentation highlighted some of the cultural elements and historic events that shape the Indigenous experience within the current healthcare system.
