Help is just a call away for anyone in need
A crisis can happen when an individual cannot cope with either their feelings or their situation. This state of crisis is not likely to improve and may worsen if there is no one to turn to. Anyone, at anytime, may have a crisis and need assistance.
The Brant Mental Health Crisis Response System works in conjunction with the Mental Health Crisis Support Program at St. Leonard’s Community Services – Addictions and Mental Health to provide a continuum of Crisis Services for Brant County. The Brant Mental Health Crisis Response System
Emergency Mental Health: Emergency Department at the BCHS
Comprehensive psychiatric emergency assessments at the request of the BGH Emergency Department
Provides:
- 24/7 service
- 16 years of age and older
- Emergency (life-threatening) and Acute Mental Health and Addiction Crisis
- Admission to Mental Health Unit
- In-person crisis service during the night
Mental Health Registered Nurses
Medical back-up on site
OHIP coverage
Linkages to on-going service as required
Follow-up aftercare telephone contact
Mental Health Crisis Response: Brantford Medical Center Urgent Care Center 40 Shellington
(off Garden Ave), Brantford
Comprehensive mental health risk assessments at the request of the Urgent Care Physician.
Provides:
- Weekdays, 1300 to 2100 hours
- 16 years of age and older
- Acute and Urgent Mental Health and Addiction Crisis
- Mental Health Unit admission if required

Linkages to on-going service as required
Follow-up aftercare telephone contact
Crisis Counselling: E Wing – Main at the BCHS
Short-term counselling for crisis intervention; 2 month cap Self-referral
Provides:
- Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 to 4:00
- Contact the Mental Health Office at (519) 751-5530
- 16 years of age and older
- Urgent (non-life threatening) and Psychosocial Mental Health and Addiction Crisis
Master of Social Work
Crisis Consulting Physician back-up

Mental Health Crisis Support
Mental Health Crisis Support: St. Leonard’s Community Services
Addictions and Mental Health at 133 Elgin Street
Crisis support and/or counselling for individuals experiencing mental health crisis or distress
Open referral
Provides:
- Immediate telephone crisis counselling
- In-person walk-in crisis counselling, Monday to Friday: 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
- Access to Peer Support Worker
- Mobile response
- 16 years of age and older

Free of charge
Linkages to on-going service as required

The Brant Mental Health Crisis Response uses a team approach to treatment. Information is shared with members of the interdisciplinary team involved in your care. Information will not be shared outside the treatment team without your prior knowledge and consent except as required by law.
