The Brant County Medical Association (BCMA) is an independent local association with representation (and therefore affiliation) to the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) through its elected members. You do not need to belong to the OMA to join the BCMA.
We are the local association that brings all Brant County doctors together. Our goal is to be a common voice representing all physicians of this county, whether or not they choose to affiliate with the hospital, or have different practice models or specialties.
We play an important role in the community. Over the last year, the BCMA has awarded almost $6,000 in scholarships to secondary schools in the area and to local students enrolled in medical school programs. These bursaries are made possible by the generosity of our membership.
The BCMA also organizes social events to allow our members to meet with each other. We have an annual holiday party in the fall and a summer get-together.
The executive of the BCMA is made up of the president, vice president, and secretary-treasurer. Each position is for a one-year term with the full commitment being for three years, starting at the secretary-treasurer level and working up to president. The secretary-treasurer is responsible for collecting membership dues and scholarship donations, issuing tax receipts, and planning the social events. The vice president is the BMCA’s link to the OMA District #2 annual meeting and elections. The president acts as the BCMA’s delegate at OMA District #2 meetings and is also invited to attend other OMA meetings and negotiations.
